School Organizes Clean-Up Campaign

Students Take Part in Community Clean-Up Campaign

More than 100 students, teachers, and local residents participated in a community clean-up campaign held in Thimphu on Monday. The campaign was organized to raise awareness about environmental protection and encourage young people to take an active role in keeping their communities clean.

The participants gathered at the school premises at 8:00 a.m. before dividing into groups. Each group was assigned different areas, including nearby roads, public spaces, playgrounds, and drainage areas. Wearing gloves and carrying garbage bags, the students collected plastic bottles, food wrappers, paper, cans, and other forms of waste.

According to the organizers, the campaign was planned after teachers noticed an increase in litter around public areas. They said that regular clean-up activities could help students understand the importance of responsible waste management.

The school principal said that environmental protection should not be the responsibility of only government agencies or organizations. He encouraged students to develop good habits such as using reusable materials, avoiding unnecessary plastic, and disposing of waste properly.

One of the participating students said that the activity helped her understand how much waste can accumulate in public places when people do not dispose of it responsibly. She also said that she hoped similar activities would be organized regularly.

During the final part of the program, teachers conducted a short awareness session on waste separation, recycling, and reducing plastic consumption. Students were encouraged to share what they had learned with their families and friends.

The campaign ended at around noon, with organizers thanking all participants for their contribution. The school plans to conduct more environmental activities in the future as part of its efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier community.
