Sarpang — A taxi driver was killed by an elephant at around 7 p.m. yesterday along the Umling-Gelephu road in Sarpang.
According to initial information, the driver was travelling along the Umling route when he encountered an elephant on the road. The driver reportedly attempted to flee from the animal, but the elephant attacked him.
The attack resulted in the driver’s death at the scene.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of motorists travelling through areas where human-elephant encounters are common, particularly during the evening and night.
Authorities are expected to assess the incident and take necessary measures to help prevent similar encounters and ensure the safety of commuters along the road.
