Fierce race for second spot continues as Thimphu City and RTC FC battle on.
Paro Football Club has officially clinched the 2025 BoB Premier League title following a decisive victory over Transport United FC. With this win, Paro FC secures its sixth league title, sitting comfortably atop the table with 48 points 12 clear of second-placed Thimphu City FC.
The match, held at Woochu Sports Arena, saw Paro dominate the pitch, knowing that a loss would have delayed their title hopes by at least a month and disrupted their preparation for the upcoming AFC Cup group stage.
In a post-match interview, Paro FC’s head coach expressed both relief and pride at the team’s performance.
“If we had lost the match today, then we would have had to wait for one more month, and that would have really disrupted our AFC group stage preparation. So our boys played a good game,” he said. “I think today’s performance gives us more time to prepare and focus. Those who doubted us — I think it concludes here today. This is our sixth title, and every one of them feels special.”
Champions Confirmed, But the Race Isn’t Over
While Paro FC celebrates their triumph, the battle for second place remains intense. Thimphu City FC (36 points) and ETC FC (34 points) are locked in a close contest, with only two rounds of fixtures remaining.
The second-place finish is crucial as it could offer a pathway to continental qualification, depending on Bhutan’s AFC slot allocations.
What’s Next for Paro FC?
With the title secured, Paro FC will now turn its full attention to preparing for the AFC Cup group stage. Their early victory provides a valuable window for tactical adjustments, player rest, and focused training — a luxury few clubs have before such a major international competition.
Club captain Tshering Dorji also spoke after the match:
“We didn’t just play for the title , we played for our pride and for Bhutanese football. We want to show Asia what we’re capable of. This win gives us the platform to prepare better.“
