RTC Road: A tragedy waiting to happen?
Potholes, Landslides, and Peril: When Will Someone Get Hurt?
The blacktop road connecting Royal Thimphu College (RTC) to the main highway is now in the worst condition ever. The road has worsened significantly, with potholes, waterlogging, and damaged surfaces affecting all commuters on a daily basis.
Speaking to RTC News Web, Penjore, a local resident who has been using the road for almost 15 years now, said that this is the first time he has seen the road in this pathetic condition and is worried about his car possibly breaking down soon. Adding on to this, a student of RTC on an anonymous condition with a humorous tone said that the road leading to the only A plus plus institution in the country has a heartbreaking road connection.
Many drivers are forced to cross into oncoming lanes to dodge deep potholes, increasing the risk of accidents. A minor landslide along the road further adds to the hazards. For all the commuters, the road is not only inconvenient but also very dangerous. The unsafe road conditions heighten the risk of accidents, especially at night or during heavy rainfall. Many student who travel to college in their low-clearance personal cars said that their vehicles are being damaged because of deep potholes.

Some community members believe the college should take the lead, while others argue that the local authorities should intervene. The deteriorating state has raised serious safety concerns, yet it remains unclear about whose responsibility?
