Students work together with the local community to preserve sacred heritage
Chukha, September 20, 2025— Members of the Royal Thimphu College (RTC) Tarayana Club completed a community service program at Dokhachu Goenpa, also known as Ekajati Lhakhang, in Chapcha Gewog, Chukha Dzongkhag. The visit was planned to help with the ongoing renovations at the sacred site. With a focus on cultural preservation, civic responsibility, and community bonding, the volunteers actively participated in hard labor, such as collecting and sorting construction stones and assisting with site excavation.

The day also included a shared community lunch, which exemplified the students’ and residents’ sense of cooperation and teamwork. To close the program, volunteers lit traditional butter lamps and prayed for the renovation’s success and the well-being of all sentient beings. Speaking about the effort, club members explained that the experience was about more than just contributing to the goenpa’s physical rehabilitation; it was also about creating meaningful ties with the community. The activity reflected the Tarayana Club’s objectives of compassion, service, and cultural preservation.

The program emphasized how youth engagement may help to preserve Bhutan’s spiritual legacy while also fostering societal ideals such as service and communal responsibility.
